This year I’ve managed to get students to ask for more worksheets and sight-reading! I have these mini-incentive charts to thank for it:
These incentive charts by Carson Dellosa have 20 places for stickers. Each time a student completes a worksheet or a sight-reading exercise, I give a sticker. If a student returns to their lesson with 5 worksheets completed, I give 5 stickers. When students complete a chart, they are allowed to pick out a prize from a bucket of goodies.
By using these charts, students are encouraged to do more music theory and more sight-reading. When students see that they only need 3 stickers to complete the chart, they will ask for 3 sight-reading exercises. They will even do extra theory pages at home in order to complete a chart.
I keep a chart for each student hanging on a bulletin board in my studio. The students like to compare charts and compete with each other to see who can finish the most charts.
I usually order these charts from Amazon. They can also be ordered from Carson Dellosa or purchased from a teacher resource store.
